Some Comfort for Beleaguered Consumers

Anyone who has ever experienced indifferent, dishonest or deliberately devious business practices may take some comfort in a new website called thesqueakywheel.com, which I learned about in yesterday’s Globe and Mail. For a fee of $5, anyone who feels they have been ill-used by a business, large or small, can register a letter of complaint that will remain posted for one year on this site. What takes this beyond merely a public airing of grievances is the fact that for every person who views the complaint, an e-mail is sent off to the company letting it know that another potential customer has become aware of the customer’s dissatisfaction, thereby giving added incentive for the company to settle the complaint.
